Seals to the rescue!
Thursday, 20 August 2009 22:09

It's been another busy day today - which is always a good thing. I was on a shoot in Manchester for a client and outside taking some architectural photos when the heavens opened ( well, it is Manchester!).

I was quite some distance from the van, with nothing to protect the camera from the rain so it had no choice but to get wet.

It's in scenarios like this when the seals which might otherwise seem excessive on a camera, become vital! The camera was/is absolutely fine, and all that was required was a quick wipe down with a cloth. Obviously I'd never recommend relying on the seals 100% and deliberately shooting in heavy rain, but if you do get caught on a shoot, at least with a sealed camera there's a good chance it will continue shooting and you can get the job done. Had I been using a lesser camera and lens it may have had an untimely death!
