Workhouse Photographer Andrew Woodhouse talks about a particularly busy day at Workhouse Studios with two different jobs either side of the country and completely different subjects to shoot. Here's how the day went...
I woke nice and early to get ready for the busy day ahead, I wanted to get to work in plenty of time so I could load the van with all the gear we'd need on the shoot. The kit was pretty much my "go-to" location gear, camera bag and tripod, my small 'strobist' lighting kit, which includes a couple of Nikon Sb900s, a couple of stands and a couple of brollies. I also packed the big Profoto lights, stands and softboxes as I didn't know the location I was to be shooting and may have needed more power/versatility than the "strobist" kit could offer. Oh and I also took a MacBook Pro so we could view/download the photos. Once I'd got it all loaded, Nicky (Workhouse Account Manager) arrived and we set off to a hospital in York - we were shooting some engineers working in the hospital. The shoot went well and without issue as we worked quickly and efficiently to get all the sots which we'd been briefed on and a few more in between. Just after 11:15 we'd loaded the van again and were off on our way, back to Workhouse, utilising the journey time, I downloaded the files to the MacBook Pro - they were needed ASAP. After a long journey stuck behind numerous caravans we finally arrived back at work and managed to unload the van in record time. As soon as I had unloaded the Profoto lights and stands and dropped Nicky off I was back on the road to meet up with Andrew, the interviewer I was going to working with on the afternoon's shoot for the next issue of Cumbria Voice Magazine which we publish on behalf of the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce. I met up with Andrew and loaded the remaining kit into his car and we set off for Warrington. We got to Warrington and eventually found the location of the shoot after the directions had sent us completely the wrong way! Once there we did the extra, filler photos that would accompany the main photos and article in the magazine. Luckily, despite a threatening looking sky, the rain held off. After we'd nailed those shots it was inside for the main interview and candid, relaxed shots that were to be the main images for the article. Finishing the shoot at about ten to four and finding / loading up our respective transport I headed straight back to work. At work I unloaded the van, put the camera and batteries on charge and then got ready to paint the infinity cove ready for a shoot the next day. Finally finish painting the cove at about 6:15 and head off home. The cove's looking much better now, but will need another coat before the shoot the following day. A busy day for sure, but that's the best way to have it. I love it when there's several things happening. What makes it even better is we got some killer shots too. |
